Our window display ready and we’re proud to once again be supporting CIBC’s Run for the Cure in Charlottetown on September 30 (http://www.runforthecure.com/site/TR?fr_id=1411&pg=entry). The countdown is on! This is the 21st year for the Run, and each year that goes by raises awareness and funding that bring us that much closer to the cure and to assisting breast cancer survivors. This year at JEMS, we’re tying in our support of the Cancer De Mamas Clinic with the Run for the Cure. We’ve kicked off our campaign to collect gently used bras, wigs, etc. (a Wish List for the clinic can be found here http://jaltembabaylife.com/wish-list-for-cancer-de-mama-clinic-2013) for the 2013 Cancer de Mamas Clinic in La Penita taking place from Feb. 1-3.

For those who don’t know about the Clinic, a brief explanation and history follows from the website http://jaltembabaylife.com/community/cancer-de-mama:

“The mission of the Cancer de Mama group is to provide a service that is part of the healing process for survivors of breast cancer.

Project founder Jackie Jackson, from Enderby BC, is a breast cancer survivor. She was fortunate to be able to purchase a prosthesis and her emotional healing began right away.

When Jackie learned there was very limited help for Mexican women, she decided to bring donations and supplies to the women in Nayarit. In 1996, Jackie gave away 28 prostheses. That was the beginning of Cancer de Mama.

Today, with the help of over 100 volunteers (men and women!), Cancer de Mama provides free prosthesis, funds medicals expenses, helps with after surgery with counseling and physical therapy, and provides wigs, scarves and hats for Mexican women. A three day workshop is held annually in La Peñita. This clinic helps in all areas of dealing with this disease, giving women compassion, hope and encouragement.

Women come from all over the State of Nayarit. While the need seems endless, we have never turned a single woman away. We want to continue that tradition and ensure an everlasting supply of support for these Mexican women – all of whom are survivors.

Last year, the Cancer de Mama clinic provided help for more than 300 women. We expect the need to be even greater this year.”

Hello everyone! I would like to introduce myself, I am Maureen’s daughter Julia and have recently joined the JEMS team. I am excited to be back on Prince Edward Island after being away working and traveling for the past number of years. I was thrilled when JEMS opened it’s doors 3 summers ago and still get a great feeling every time I walk into the shop! I am an avid boutique shopper and love that when you walk into JEMS you could be anywhere in the World, we truly offer a unique shopping experience! We have received so much positive feedback from customers on everything including our line and merchandise selection, the overall appearance of the store, and the friendly and helpful atmosphere we constantly strive to provide.
